sad roblox map is an ongoing world-building project that translates the experience of migration into a navigable environment. it is built from reconstructed interiors and symbolic fields, holding the condition of being in transit: waiting, temporary arrangements, and the repeated attempt to assemble “home” from what is available.
the project speaks through materials and signs. potatoes appear as companions and witnesses. their slow changes become a way to measure time, endurance, and the quiet violence of displacement. polystyrene foam becomes a recurring substance of survival – easily broken and associated with temporary construction. coffee filters function as keepers of conversations: paper artifacts of cups, holding what was spoken and what remained unfinished, postponed, or never fully articulated. shelter becomes possible through careful placement, repair, and attention.
the project was first opened to an audience during an openstudio event in lisbon, where visitors encountered the virtual world in direct proximity to the artist’s everyday environment. within the map, the lisboa studio remains as one reconstructed chapter from that period of emigration and paperwork. the physical studio has since disappeared from daily life, while its form continues to exist online as a room that can still be entered.
rather than telling a linear story, the map holds a state. it lets the viewer enter waiting as a space: something that can be walked through, returned to, and shared. this work asks how presence can persist when the physical address keeps changing, and what kind of “home” can be built without permanence.
